Every FiveM server has rules, and understanding them is essential for staying unbanned and creating good RP. This guide explains common rules, why they exist, and how to follow them properly.
Why Rules Exist
Rules protect the RP experience for everyone. Without them, servers become chaotic free-for-alls where stories can't develop. Rules create the framework for collaborative storytelling. Respecting rules shows you respect other players' time and experience.
Combat Rules (RDM, VDM)
RDM (Random Deathmatch): No killing without RP reason. VDM (Vehicle Deathmatch): No using vehicles as weapons randomly. These exist because random violence prevents storytelling. Conflict should emerge from interactions, not boredom.
Life Value Rules (NVL, Fear RP)
NVL (No Value of Life): Act like death matters. Fear RP: Show realistic fear when threatened. These rules create stakes and tension. If everyone acts invincible, dangerous situations lose meaning.
Information Rules (Metagaming)
Metagaming: Using OOC information IC. Your character only knows what they've experienced in-game. No stream sniping, no Discord coordination for IC actions, no 'I just know' without explanation. Fair play requires information integrity.
Action Rules (Powergaming, Fail RP)
Powergaming: Forcing unrealistic outcomes on others. Fail RP: Breaking immersion with unrealistic behavior. These rules ensure RP is collaborative — you can't decide other characters' reactions or make yourself invincible.
Respawn Rules (NLR)
NLR (New Life Rule): After death, forget what killed you. No revenge-killing, no returning to the scene. This prevents endless revenge cycles and gives consequences meaning.
Following Rules
Read your server's specific rules — variations exist. When uncertain, ask in OOC or tickets. If you accidentally break rules, apologize and learn. Repeated violations get you banned. Rules aren't restrictions — they're the foundation of good RP.
