Optimizing FiveM Performance

Living Legends RP • March 2026 • 6 min read

FiveM can be demanding, especially on servers with lots of custom content. Here's how to optimize your setup for smooth gameplay without sacrificing too much visual quality.

Recommended Specs

For smooth FiveM RP: CPU i5 or Ryzen 5 equivalent, GPU GTX 1060/RX 580 minimum, RAM 16GB recommended, SSD highly recommended for loading times. Lower specs work but expect compromises.

In-Game Settings

Start with GTA V's settings: lower grass quality, shadows, and reflection quality for big FPS gains. Extended distance scaling is demanding — reduce if needed. Keep texture quality high if you have VRAM.

FiveM Specific Settings

In FiveM settings: disable streaming prependix if you have loading issues, adjust game build to match server requirements, and manage cache (clearing can help performance but increases load times initially).

Background Optimization

Close unnecessary background apps, especially browsers with many tabs. Disable overlays you don't need (Discord overlay can cause issues). Update GPU drivers regularly for best performance.

Common Performance Issues

Sudden FPS drops often mean: server strain (wait it out), memory leak (restart FiveM periodically), or specific areas with heavy custom content. Consistent low FPS means settings need adjustment.

Visual Mods

Some players use visual enhancement mods (NVE, QuantV). These look amazing but are demanding. Use them only if your system handles base FiveM well. Prioritize performance over graphics for RP — smooth gameplay matters more than pretty screenshots.
